DETROIT, MI — Facing the prospect of a nearly insurmountable 3-0 deficit, the Los Angeles Dodgers came out swinging in Game 3 and never looked back, defeating the Detroit Tigers 5-2 at Comerica Park.

Los Angeles did all of its damage in a stunning first inning, sending nine batters to the plate and scoring five times against Tigers starter Jack Flaherty. Every run came with two outs.

Max Muncy got the rally started with an RBI single to right, and the Dodgers kept the pressure on from there. The biggest blow came from Teoscar Hernández, who lined a two-run double to cap the five-run outburst and give Los Angeles an early cushion.

Flaherty never recovered from the rough opening frame and exited in the fourth after allowing all five runs on nine hits over 3.1 innings.

Detroit finally got on the board in the third against Dodgers starter Blake Snell. Parker Meadows led off the inning with a single and later scored on a sacrifice fly. Jahmai Jones followed with an RBI groundout to trim the deficit to 5-2.

That was all the offense either team could muster.

Snell settled in after the third and completed five innings, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out six to earn the win. The Dodgers bullpen took over from there, combining to keep Detroit off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

The Tigers’ relievers were equally impressive after Flaherty’s departure, allowing just two hits over the final 5.1 innings to keep the game within reach. But Detroit never found the big hit needed to mount a comeback.

Closer Edwin Díaz worked the ninth for his fifth save of the postseason, securing a much-needed victory for Los Angeles.

The Dodgers now trail the series 2-1 and will look to even the World Series in Game 4 at Comerica Park.
