Texas A&M plummets after loss to unranked Arkansas
Texas A&M suffered one of the biggest falls of the week, dropping 14 spots to No. 16 after losing 28-26 at home to unranked Arkansas.
It was the Aggies’ first loss of the season and quickly erased much of the momentum they had built during their strong start.
Tennessee suffers another setback
Tennessee suffered its first loss of the season in stunning fashion as Auburn rolled to a 41-24 road victory.
The Volunteers’ defense completely unraveled after halftime, allowing the Tigers to outscore them 31-0 in the second half.
Senior quarterback Byrum Brown powered Auburn’s offense with a remarkable performance. Brown threw for a touchdown, rushed for two more and finished with 221 yards on the ground.
Four teams fall out of Top 25
Week 5 proved costly for several ranked teams.
Houston (No. 18), Penn State (No. 21), Minnesota (No. 22) and Navy (No. 23) all suffered losses and subsequently dropped out of the Top 25.
Irish win fourth straight, continue climb back up poll
After two early-season losses knocked Notre Dame out of the rankings, the preseason No. 3 Fighting Irish have steadily worked their way back.
Notre Dame won its fourth straight game with a 27-14 victory over Purdue, moving up five spots from No. 24 to No. 19.
Quarterback C.J. Carr threw for 207 yards and two touchdowns without an interception as the Irish continued to rebuild their season following the disappointing start.
Heisman race gets a makeover
The early Heisman race has a new leader, with Stanford senior wide receiver Nico Brown moving to the top of the list after helping the Cardinal defeat Wake Forest 37-35.
Three quarterbacks round out the leading candidates: Marcel Reed of Texas A&M, John Mateer of Oklahoma and Devon Dampier of Utah.
The race remains wide open, particularly with Dampier sidelined by injury and Reed looking to rebound after Texas A&M’s first loss.
