SEATTLE, WA — The Seattle Kraken stunned the hockey world, sweeping the top-seeded Edmonton Oilers with a 5-2 win in Game 4 to close out their semifinal series.
Coming off a high-scoring Game 3 victory, Seattle set the tone early. Kaapo Kakko and Jaden Schwartz each scored in the first period—both notching their second goals of the postseason—to give the Kraken a 2-0 lead. Ryker Evans extended the advantage in the second, putting Edmonton in a deep hole at 3-0.
The Oilers showed signs of life in the third period. Leon Draisaitl and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins each found the net to cut the deficit to 3-2 and briefly shift momentum.
But Edmonton’s push unraveled late. Seattle restored control with a fourth goal midway through the period, and Ryan Lindgren added an empty-netter to seal the sweep and eliminate the Western Conference’s top seed.
The series raised major questions for Edmonton, particularly surrounding Connor McDavid. The league’s regular-season points leader managed just one shot in Game 4 and finished a minus-3. Over the four-game series, he totaled one goal and three assists, a quiet output for a player of his caliber.
The Kraken now advance with confidence, while the Oilers head into the offseason searching for answers.
