WACO, TX — Baylor Bears opened the 2028 season with an emphatic statement Saturday, overpowering the North Texas Mean Green 58-13 at McLane Stadium.

The victory was Baylor’s largest since a 55-3 rout of Oklahoma State in Week 6 of the 2027 season and showcased an offense that rarely slowed from start to finish.

Senior quarterback Walker White picked up where he left off last season, completing an efficient outing with 255 passing yards and two touchdowns before giving way to freshman George Onwaualu in the fourth quarter. The freshman made the most of his debut, throwing two touchdown passes to cap the rout.

Senior running back Tyshawn King, making his first start as Baylor’s featured back, rushed 19 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns. King’s biggest highlight came early in the second quarter when he broke free for a 55-yard touchdown run, helping the Bears turn a two-score game into a runaway.

Wide receiver Quincy Robinson proved nearly impossible to defend, hauling in five receptions for 138 yards and three touchdowns. Robinson caught scoring passes from both quarterbacks as Baylor repeatedly stretched the North Texas secondary.

Baylor established control early, taking a 13-3 lead after the opening quarter before erupting for two rushing touchdowns by king in the second to build a commanding halftime advantage.

The Bears never let up after the break. Onwaualu directed two fourth-quarter touchdown drives, while Baylor’s defense kept North Texas from mounting any sustained comeback, completing a dominant performance on both sides of the ball.

The win provided an encouraging start for a Baylor team looking to rebound from last season’s disappointing finish, which included a loss to Ole Miss Rebels in the Liberty Bowl after spending much of the year ranked in the Top 25.

The Bears now turn their attention to a much tougher test on the road against the San Jose State Spartans, led by reigning Bear Bryant Coach of the Year Ken Niumatalolo.
