SAN DIEGO, CA — The Tigers bounced back from an Opening Day shutout to win the final two games of the series, closing it out with a 3-1 victory over the Padres at Petco Park.

Detroit struck immediately in Game 3 as Kerry Carpenter led off with a home run off Randy Vásquez. San Diego answered in the second when Gavin Sheets launched a solo shot off Tigers starter Jack Flaherty, but that proved to be the Padres’ only offense of the afternoon.

Flaherty settled in from there, working five innings and striking out seven to earn his first win of the season.

The game turned in the sixth when Detroit broke through again. After Riley Greene and Spenser Torkelson reached base, Dillon Dingler delivered the decisive blow — a one-out, three-run homer to left that pushed the Tigers ahead 3-1.

The bullpen took it the rest of the way, and Hanley Jensen recorded the final outs to earn his second save as Detroit secured the series win.
