May 10 — Above .500, take 1st place

The Tigers defeated the Royals 2-1 in 10 innings to improve to 21-20, climbing into 1st place for the first time this season after the Guardians lost 8-7 to Minnesota. Recently acquired reliever Matt Svanson was turned to for the save and he picked up his 9th.

May 9 — Skubal hurls one-hitter

Following a disappointing 5-4 loss to the Royals in the opener of a 3-game series (Jensen blew save and gave up walk-off hit), the Tigers bounced back in a big way as Tarik Skubal allowed one hit in a 4-0 victory over Kansas City. Tigers improved to 20-20.

May 4 — Finally .500

Tarik Skubal pitched a gem, leading the Tigers to a 1-0 victory over Boston in the opener of a 3-game series at Comerica. Detroit leveled their record at 18-18 and moved into 2nd place in the division. Kenley Jensen got his 12th save.

Matt Svanson, acquired in a deal that sent Wenceel Pérez to the St. Louis Cardinals, made his debut for the Detroit Tigers in a win over the Texas Rangers, showing mixed results. (More)
