ST. PAUL, MN — Connor McDavid scored twice as part of a three-goal comeback, lifting the Edmonton Oilers to a 3-2 victory over the Minnesota Wild at Grand Casino Arena to clinch the series in six games.

Minnesota came out determined to extend the series and struck early. J.T. Compher opened the scoring just 1:43 into the first period, stepping into a loose puck at the top of the circle and firing a heavy slap shot through traffic that beat Stuart Skinner glove side. Less than five minutes later, Marco Rossi doubled the lead, pouncing on a rebound in the crease after Skinner made the initial stop and slipping it inside the near post before the goalie could recover.

Facing a 2-0 deficit, the Oilers responded in the second period.

“There was no panic on the bench,” said Oilers head coach Kris Knoblauch. “We trusted our game, stayed patient, and knew if we kept pushing, we’d get our chances.”

McDavid got Edmonton on the board at 5:42 of the period, weaving through the slot and snapping a quick shot past Filip Gustavsson for his third goal of the playoffs. Just two minutes later, Evan Bouchard tied the game, stepping into a one-timer from the point off a cross-ice pass and blasting it through a screen and past Gustavsson’s blocker.

With the game level at 2-2, momentum shifted. Gustavsson was sharp early, facing 15 shots through two periods, but Edmonton turned up the pressure in the third. The Oilers fired 14 shots in the final frame, and at 7:54, McDavid struck again—finishing a rush with a quick release from the high slot to give Edmonton the lead for good.

The Oilers held firm the rest of the way to complete the comeback and eliminate Minnesota.
