PITTSBURGH, PA — The Dodgers moved within one win of the World Series, defeating the Pirates 5-2 at PNC Park to take a 3-1 lead in the National League Championship Series.

Los Angeles built an early 3-0 advantage behind the long ball. The Dodgers launched three solo homers, including two in the fourth inning and another in the fifth, putting Pittsburgh in an early hole.

The Pirates refused to go quietly. After struggling to generate offense for much of the night, they broke through in the seventh. With two outs and two runners aboard, Jared Triolo lined a double to right, scoring Jake Mangum and Nick Gonzales to cut the deficit to 3-2 and energize the home crowd.

Neither team scored in the eighth, keeping the game within reach heading into the ninth.

That changed when Tommy Edman singled with one out and Will Smith followed with a groundout. Looking to keep the game within a run, Pittsburgh turned to closer Raisel Iglesias, but Shohei Ohtani crushed a 426-foot homer to center, extending the Dodgers’ lead to 5-2 and silencing PNC Park.

The Pirates had one last opportunity in the bottom of the ninth when Bryan Reynolds led off with a double against Dodgers closer Edwin Díaz. But Díaz regrouped, retiring the next three hitters to end the game and put Los Angeles one victory away from the World Series.

Pittsburgh now faces elimination and must win three straight games to keep its season alive.
