Oilers, Kraken can’t be stopped

The Edmonton Oilers and Seattle Kraken couldn’t have asked for a better start, finishing October with perfect 8-0-0 records. Close behind are the Colorado Avalanche, who remain unbeaten in regulation at 8-0-1.

Seattle’s offseason additions have paid immediate dividends. Former Los Angeles Kings winger Adrian Kempe has made an instant impact, ranking second on the club with 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists). Nick Schmaltz has been the Kraken’s top playmaker, leading the team with 12 points—all assists.

The Kraken have also received outstanding play in net. Joey Daccord owns a 5-0-0 record with a 2.96 goals-against average, while rookie Niklas Kokko has gone 3-0-0 with a 2.29 GAA.

In Edmonton, Connor McDavid is once again setting the pace with 9 points (3 goals, 6 assists), while Kasperi Kapanen leads the club with five goals. Goaltender Stuart Skinner is 4-0-0 with a 2.60 GAA, though he’ll miss the start of November with a bruised hand and is expected to return during the second week of the month.

Blues hit all the wrong notes

The St. Louis Blues endured the Western Conference’s worst opening month, stumbling to a 1-6-1 record. Even more concerning, they failed to win a single home game, opening the season 0-6-0 on home ice.

Offense has once again been their biggest problem. St. Louis ranks last in the conference at just 2.43 goals per game, while its defense has offered little relief, surrendering 4.13 goals per contest—15th in the West, ahead of only Utah(4.14).

The slow start isn’t entirely surprising. The Blues finished last in the NHL in scoring a season ago (2.55 goals per game) and made few significant additions to address their offensive shortcomings during the offseason.

The Los Angeles Kings have also struggled out of the gate at 2-5-0. The departure of Kempe has been noticeable, as the veteran winger has already become one of Seattle’s top offensive contributors after signing with the Kraken this summer.

Player Movement

The Chicago Blackhawks acquired defenseman Nick Perbix (87 OVR, Top-4 Defenseman) from the Nashville Predators in exchange for two 2027 second-round draft picks, including one originally owned by the Vancouver Canucks.

Perbix spent the past season and a half with Nashville after beginning his NHL career with the Tampa Bay Lightning, where he played from 2022 to 2025.
