WASHINGTON, DC — Freddy Peralta delivered a spectacular debut for the Detroit Tigers, but the Washington Nationals rallied after his departure to claim a 2-1 walk-off victory at Nationals Park.

Making his first start since signing with Detroit in the offseason, Peralta was dominant, allowing just two hits over seven scoreless innings while striking out 10. Yet despite his brilliance, he departed with only a one-run cushion, leaving the outcome in the hands of the bullpen.

The Tigers’ only offense came in the fifth inning when Jahmai Jones launched a solo home run into the left-field seats off David Peterson, who otherwise kept Detroit’s lineup in check and gave Washington a chance to rally.

Peralta’s lone moment of trouble came in the seventh. He issued a leadoff walk to James Wood, then surrendered his second hit of the afternoon to CJ Abrams. After retiring one batter, Daylen Lile reached on a fielder’s choice that moved Wood to third, but Peralta escaped by striking out Keibert Ruiz to preserve Detroit’s 1-0 lead.

The Nationals finally broke through in the eighth.

Reliever Will Vest took over and surrendered an RBI double to Brady House, scoring Lile to even the game at 1-1.

Washington completed the comeback in the ninth against Matt Svanson. Abrams drew a leadoff walk and eventually moved into scoring position. With two outs, Jacob Young lined a single to right, bringing Abrams home with the winning run and handing the Tigers a heartbreaking 2-1 defeat despite Peralta’s outstanding performance.
