TOLEDO, OH — The Toledo Mud Hens closed out April by extending their winning streak to nine games, rallying for a 3-2 victory over the St. Paul Saints.

Toledo wasted little time taking control. In the bottom of the first, Andrew Jenkins turned on a fastball from Robby Snelling and launched a two-run home run to left, giving the Mud Hens an early 2-0 lead.

Starter Ty Madden made the advantage stand through the first five innings, holding St. Paul scoreless before Quentin Young delivered an RBI single in the sixth to cut the deficit to one.

The Saints drew even in the eighth when Brooks Lee connected on a solo home run off reliever Brenan Hanifee, tying the game at 2-2.

Toledo answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning. Pinch-hitter Gage Workman lined a go-ahead RBI double down the left-field line, driving home the eventual winning run.

The ninth inning brought more drama. Bailey Horn allowed a hit and a walk with one out, prompting the Mud Hens to summon closer Scott Effross. The veteran reliever retired the final two batters to record his 11th save of the season and preserve Toledo’s ninth consecutive victory.

The Mud Hens improved to 21-10, maintaining a two-game lead over the Indianapolis Indians (19-12), who have also won three straight games.
