World Series: Tigers avoid a third straight loss at home, prepare to head back to LA

The Dodgers rallied to take 2 of 3 games at Detroit, but return home down 3-2 in the series. The Tigers have decided to save Tarik Skubal for a possible Game 7 instead of starting Game 6. Manager A.J. Hinch will turn to a Bullpen Game with Justin Verlander starting.

The AL/NL Championship Series begins!

With the division series round in the books, only four teams remain: Dodgers, Pirates, Tigers, and Mariners. Only Pittsburgh was not projected to make the playoffs.

Rankings of final four clubs
  • Batting: Dodgers (.322), Tigers (.299), Mariners (.259), Pirates (.210)
  • Home Runs: Tigers (14), Mariners (9), Dodgers (7), Pirates (3)
  • Slugging: Tigers (.588), Dodgers (.531), Mariners (.504), Pirates (.347)
  • ERA: Mariners (3.89), Tigers (4.91), Dodgers (5.66), Pirates (4.11)

What to watch for in NLCS

The Pirates are huge underdogs against the Dodgers. In the regular season, the Dodgers won 5 out of 6 between 2 series, outscoring the Pirates a combined 34-13 in runs. The lone win for the Pirates was on August 21 when blanked LA 1-0 but needed 7 pitchers to accomplish it.

Pirates take 2-0 lead in NLDS over Mets

After winning a decisive Game 3 against the Brewers in the Wild Card playoffs, things have not gone well for the Mets in the division series. They fell 1-0 in Game 2 despite 11 hits  and now face elimination in Game 3 when the series shifts back to Citi Field.

Dodgers offense clicking but pitching looks so-so

Los Angeles won the first two games of their NLDS against the Diamondbacks, outscoring their division rival 22-12. Starters Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto were not dominant in their starts, and the bullpen conceded 5 runs in Game 2.
