TORONTO — The Winnipeg Jets lost for the sixth time in seven games, falling 1-0 to the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Arena.
William Nylander broke the scoreless tie 4:34 into the second period, pouncing on a rebound off a save by Eric Comrie. It was Nylander’s 16th goal of the season and extended his scoring streak to three games. He leads Toronto with 43 points.
Despite outshooting Toronto 30-12, the Jets couldn’t solve goaltender Joseph Woll, who posted a shutout and earned First Star honors. With Connor Hellebuyck getting the night off, Comrie made his fourth start and took his second loss of the season.
The Maple Leafs (24-12-4) remain in first place in the Eastern Conference and have gone 6-3-1 in their last 10.
MOUNTING LOSSES
Winnipeg’s defeat in Toronto followed a home loss to Detroit. Their lone recent bright spot came in a 3-0 shutout of Edmonton, but that was preceded by four straight losses.
IMPACT
The Jets (22-10-7, 51 points) sit three points behind Central Division-leading Minnesota Wild (26-13-2) and two points ahead of St. Louis (23-16-2). In the playoff race, Winnipeg trails first-place Edmonton by four points and holds a seven-point cushion over 9th-place Anaheim Ducks.
