WINNIPEG, MB — The Winnipeg Jets mounted a furious third-period comeback from a 3-0 deficit but ultimately fell 4-3 in a shootout to the New York Rangers at Canada Life Centre.
The Rangers broke a scoreless tie late in the first period when Sam Carrick backhanded home his 15th goal of the season. Less than a minute later, Jonny Brodzinski doubled the lead. In the second period, Artemi Panarin added his 18th of the year, sending New York into the intermission with a commanding 3-0 advantage.
Winnipeg refused to fold.
In the third, Haydn Fleury sparked the comeback with two goals two minutes apart, the second coming with 5:50 remaining when he buried a loose puck in the crease. Then, with 2:37 left in regulation, Logan Stanley blasted a long-range slap shot through traffic and inside the left post to tie the game and force overtime.
Neither side could solve the goaltenders in the extra frame, though the Jets generated quality chances. In the shootout, Mika Zibanejad scored the lone goal, lifting the Rangers to victory.

The Jets slipped to fifth place in the Western Conference, losing ground to Vancouver (76 points) but remaining within striking distance of Colorado (78 points) for second place. Edmonton continues to separate from the field with 93 points.
