BOSTON, MA — David Pastrnak broke free in overtime and scored the game-winner to lift the Boston Bruins to a 3-2 victory over the Winnipeg Jets at TD Garden.
The win improved Boston’s record to 43-22-4, while Winnipeg settled for a point as they continue to battle for playoff positioning.
The Jets (33-24-11, 77 points) opened the scoring in the first period when Vladislav Namestnikov netted his 11th of the season, assisted by Josh Morrissey and Neal Pionk. Boston responded with two goals before the intermission to take a 2-1 lead.
Defense tightened in the second period. The Bruins outshot the Jets 10-4, but neither side found the net, keeping the game within reach for Winnipeg.
In the third, the Jets pulled level when Neal Pionk blasted a slap shot past Jeremy Swayman 5:36 into the period, sending the game to overtime.
In the extra frame, Pastrnak beat his defender along the boards, broke in alone, and finished with a backhand inside the left post to secure the win for Boston.
