SOUTH BEND, IN — CJ Carr would love nothing more than a do-over after throwing three interceptions without a touchdown pass in Notre Dame’s stunning 41-10 loss to No. 3 Miami in Week 0.

“It was a bad day all around, to say the least,” said Fighting Irish head coach Marcus Freeman, whose team entered the season ranked No. 3 but could be headed for a steep drop when the next rankings are released.

Junior quarterback Darian Mensah led the Hurricanes with an efficient performance, throwing for 202 yards and two touchdowns without an interception. But it was Miami’s rushing attack that inflicted the most damage.

Mark Fletcher Jr. rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Chamar Brown made the most of his seven carries by scoring twice. Receiver Cam Vaughn was Mensah’s top scoring target, hauling in both of the quarterback’s touchdown passes.

Notre Dame appeared ready for the challenge early, taking a 7-3 lead after the first quarter. Miami seized control in the second, however, scoring 14 points and taking a 17-10 advantage into halftime.

Then the game completely unraveled for the Fighting Irish.

Miami dominated both sides of the ball in the second half, while Carr and the Notre Dame offense struggled to sustain drives. The Hurricanes scored 24 unanswered points over the final two quarters and kept the Irish off the scoreboard entirely, turning a competitive first half into a 31-point rout.

For Notre Dame, the loss delivers an immediate blow to a season that began with championship expectations. For Miami, dismantling the nation’s No. 3 team on the road provided an emphatic opening statement.
