Game 5: Timberwolves win again, but lose Randle to injury

NBA, NBA Playoffs

MINNEAPOLIS, MN — The Minnesota Timberwolves kept their season alive with a 122-114 victory over the Houston Rockets, cutting Houston’s Western Conference Finals lead to 3-2.

Anthony Edwards led Minnesota with 28 points, while Julius Randle added 26 points in what may have been his final game of the postseason. Randle scored 21 of his points in the first half before suffering a torn right Achilles late in the contest.

The injury cast a shadow over an otherwise impressive victory for Minnesota.

The Timberwolves seized control early, building a 33-26 lead after the first quarter and extending the margin to 67-49 by halftime. Houston mounted a push after the break, outscoring Minnesota 65-55 in the second half, but the deficit proved too much to overcome.

Kevin Durant paced the Rockets with 25 points, while Tari Eason added 15. Houston placed six players in double figures but struggled defensively, allowing Minnesota to shoot 52% from the field and hit 14-of-34 three-point attempts. The Rockets connected on just 5-of-21 shots from beyond the arc.

The series now shifts back to Houston for Game 6, where the Timberwolves will attempt to force a winner-take-all Game 7 without one of their top scorers.
