FAYETTEVILLE, AK — Arkansas Razorbacks took the first step toward a College Football Playoff run Saturday night, surviving a late comeback by the Miami Hurricanes and securing a 22-20 First Round victory at Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium.

For much of the evening, Arkansas appeared in complete control. The Razorbacks built a 13-0 halftime lead while Miami’s offense struggled to sustain drives and managed just a field goal through the first three quarters.

The Hurricanes finally came to life in the fourth quarter behind senior quarterback Matt Chadwick. Chadwick pulled Miami within 16-10 on a 7-yard touchdown run before later finding Elija Lofton for an 11-yard touchdown pass that gave the Hurricanes their first lead of the game at 17-16.

The back-and-forth continued as both teams exchanged field goals. Miami grabbed a 20-19 advantage when Matt Lockbaum connected from 45 yards with 1:03 remaining, putting the Hurricanes within a minute of advancing.

Arkansas answered immediately.

Starting at its own 21-yard line, the Razorbacks marched 51 yards in nine plays to move into scoring range. With 11 seconds left, Nick Office calmly converted a 28-yard field goal to put Arkansas back in front, 22-20.

Miami had one final chance.

On the game’s last play, chadwick connected with Gregory Garbutt for a 53-yard gain, but the receiver was tackled as time expired before the Hurricanes could attempt a desperation field goal.

The victory sends Arkansas into the CFP Quarterfinals, while Miami’s season ends after a comeback effort that fell just short.
