Minnesota Twins

The Minnesota Twins scouting department believed 18-year-old LF Scott Engel had a ceiling as high as 99 overall, and they weren’t far off. Engel’s actual potential came in at 91 OVR, giving Minnesota another high-upside prospect from the draft.

Athletics

The Athletics missed with their first selection, landing a player whose potential topped out at 70 OVR, but made up for it with their second pick. The A’s selected 21-year-old 3B Lon Allin, a fourth-year senior who was scouted between 89-99 OVR. His actual potential came in at an impressive 95 OVR.

Texas Rangers

The Texas Rangers also found much better value with their second selection. After using their first pick on SP Rafael Cabrera, whose potential came in at 76 OVR, Texas landed a gem in 22-year-old RF Will German, who carries a 93 OVR potential.

New York Mets

The New York Mets struck gold twice. They used their first selection on CF Lewis Hancock, who carries a 93 OVR potential, then two picks later grabbed CP Tomas Leon. Mets scouts already viewed Leon highly, projecting him between 86-99 OVR before the draft.

Chicago Cubs

The Chicago Cubs had high expectations for 22-year-old C Bruno Fernandez, scouting his potential between 84-99 OVR. Their evaluation proved accurate, with Fernandez ultimately carrying a 92 OVR ceiling.
