HOUSTON, TX — Baylor erased a 13-point second-half deficit Saturday, rallying to defeat Houston 36-33 at TDECU Stadium and remain unbeaten in Big 12 play.
Running back Tyshawn King led the comeback, rushing for three touchdowns, including the game-winning score with 1:20 remaining that gave the Bears their first lead of the fourth quarter.
Bears make game-saving stop on 4th down
The Cougars (4-3, 2-2) controlled much of the first half, forcing Baylor to answer each of their touchdowns as the teams entered halftime tied 14-14. Houston finally created separation in the third quarter.
Quarterback Austin Carlisle ignited a 13-0 run with a 40-yard touchdown pass to Zaylen Cormier, and the Cougars added field goals from 31 and 35 yards to build a 27-14 advantage.
Baylor answered just before the end of the third quarter when quarterback Walker White connected with tight end Joey Olson on a short touchdown pass, trimming the deficit to 27-21.

The Bears (5-1, 3-0) finally moved in front midway through the fourth quarter when White found Olson again, this time on an 11-yard touchdown pass. Houston responded almost immediately, however, reclaiming the lead at 33-28 on DJ Butler’s 2-yard touchdown run with 2:44 remaining.
White wasn’t finished.
Starting from his own 25-yard line, the junior quarterback led Baylor on a six-play, 75-yard drive that ended with King’s third rushing touchdown of the afternoon. White then connected with Rameir Hardy for the two-point conversion, giving the Bears a 36-33 lead with 1:20 to play.

Houston had one final opportunity to force overtime or steal the win, but Baylor’s defense stood tall. Facing 4th-and-17, Carlisle found Randall Awe down the right sideline, but sophomore cornerback Amari Carver made a touchdown-saving tackle one yard shy of the first-down marker, allowing the Bears to run out the clock and complete the dramatic comeback.
