DETROIT, MI — Matt Svanson, acquired in a deal that sent Wenceel Pérez to the St. Louis Cardinals, made his debut for the Detroit Tigers in a win over the Texas Rangers, showing mixed results.

Svanson entered with Detroit leading 10-4 after Casey Mize worked six innings, allowing four runs on five hits. He struck out Joc Pederson and Ezequiel Duran before giving up a double to Wyatt Langford, then induced a groundout from Corey Seager to end the inning.

Trouble followed in the eighth as Texas loaded the bases on two hits and a walk. After Svanson recorded one out, Tyler Holton took over, allowing an RBI single charged to Svanson but limiting further damage.

The Tigers secured the series with a 12-5 win, improving to 17-18 and moving into sole possession of third place ahead of Minnesota.
